Surgery FAQ
- Our surgery day is Tuesday. We schedule appointments from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM so that we can assess EVERY patient before they undergo anesthesia. Emergency surgeries are performed as needed.
- If you would like an estimate for the cost of your pet’s surgery, please ask one of our staff members and/or doctors for the estimate before the procedure is performed. For almost every surgery except dental cleaning, ovariohysterectomy (spay) and orchiectomy (neuter), we will provide an estimate beforehand as you will be required to leave a deposit before the surgery is performed. For all surgeries that exceed $400, you will be required to leave a deposit.
- All surgeries on patients that are older than 7 years old are required to have bloodwork performed within 4 weeks BEFORE they are anesthetized. If your pet has significant health problems, we will likely require bloodwork and/or other testing on the day of surgery. All animals undergoing general anesthesia at our hospital have intravenous catheters before they are anesthetized. All animals over 7 years old, regardless of medical conditions present, will receive IV fluids during anesthesia unless the procedure is extremely short. Your pet’s health is our main concern.
- If you miss a surgery appointment, please call us immediately at (252) 715.1407. As we may be in surgery, please leave a message if you do not reach our receptionist. If you miss an appointment and do not contact us, you will be required to leave a nonrefundable deposit for the FULL AMOUNT of the surgery before you are allowed to reschedule another surgery at our hospital.
- If you schedule an appointment for a surgery and cancel that surgical appointment less than 24 hours before the time it is to be performed, you may be required to leave a deposit before you can schedule another surgery.
